Interne Rudeness
The Internet is full of places for people to express themselves in a multitude of ways. They can show off pictures of things they’ve made, post their intimate details on blogs, post in forum threads, and even showcase their talents via video sharing sites such as YouTube.
It seems that the more opportunities that individuals have to share, the more some of these people are inclined to act in a less than appropriate way. Thanks to the fact that their identity can be masked online, these people display a rudeness that, in a face to face conversation, would not be acceptable.
These people are often called trolls, when it comes to online terminology. Many people want to make others angry and cause them to respond in a nasty manner so they post things that may be controversial or hurtful. Some human beings like to hurt other people.
To date, no research has been undertaken to determine what makes individuals “troll”. Besides, if studies were conducted about this issue, how could you ascertain the accuracy of the data? You’re looking at a group of people trying to be lost in a sea of nameless faces.
Sites such as YouTube leave users feeling a bit different than those posting in just text based places. With YouTube, the user is more exposed to the public as they’re actually showing themselves on camera. A trolls rudeness is then targeted at the appearance of the user as well as whatever information is in the video. Trolls aren’t always mean and hurtful through comments. Other comments will be vulgar in nature.
Whether it’s to blow off steam or venting frustration or just misdirected anger, Internet trolls are everywhere. Just because there is a sense of anonymity on the Internet, people should quit feeling that it turns a place for social interaction and information into a giant playground. You can end up getting hurt if this is how you view the Internet.
Anyone who is under the assumption that they will not be discovered, is sadly mistaken, as there are simple online tools to uncover a person’s identity. Plugging in an IP address and bringing up it’s location on a map, is the specialty of websites like fast-ip-search.com/237/index.htm. All it takes is a single sequence of numbers and one mouse click, and all of a sudden your location pops up on a map. Who you are dealing with and coming into contact with online is something that you cannot determine; they could be mentally unstable. Who knows what will cause them to have a mental breakdown.
Your best response to a troll’s comments is to locate a representative of the website to report them to. Many places want to crack down on the hurtful posting and will quickly ban and disable these trolls’ accounts. We do not need to accept rudeness as normal online behavior. A good rule is that if you wouldn’t say it to a person’s face, you shouldn’t be posting it online.
